I am a photographer based in Whanganui, Aotearoa New Zealand, working primarily in black and white. My practice sits at the intersection of documentary, portraiture, and quiet observation. I am interested less in spectacle and more in presence, the unguarded moment, the emotional residue that lingers after the shutter closes.
Photography entered my life in October 2006 and never really left. Over the years I have worked professionally and semi-professionally across fashion, portraiture, weddings, and personal projects. While my early commercial work leaned toward beauty and bridal fashion, my centre of gravity has gradually shifted toward documentary and photojournalism, toward stories that unfold slowly and honestly rather than being staged into existence.
Black and white is not a stylistic affectation for me. It is a way of listening. Removing colour allows gesture, light, texture, and expression to speak more clearly. I am drawn to faces that carry history, to hands that have worked, to moments where people are simply being rather than performing. My work is about dignity, vulnerability, and the poetry of ordinary lives.
Alongside my photographic practice, I have formal training in art, creativity, digital media, and graphic design, spanning from early design studies in 2003 through to advanced qualifications completed in 2025. These studies have sharpened my visual literacy and reinforced my belief that good photography is not just about technique, but about intent, context, and empathy.
I live with my wife Wilma, whose Filipino heritage has quietly influenced my understanding of family, migration, resilience, and belonging. These themes surface naturally in my work. Being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult has also shaped how I see the world. My attention is often drawn to details others overlook, fragments at the edges of scenes, small visual truths that might otherwise be missed.
While I continue to take on select commercial work, my primary focus is now on long-form documentary and photojournalism projects. I am interested in stories rooted in place, labour, identity, faith, and community, particularly within provincial New Zealand. I believe meaningful work can come from anywhere, not only from centres of power or population.
This website is both an archive and a living space. Some images are quiet. Some are unresolved. All are made with care.
If my work resonates with you, I am always open to conversation, collaboration, and stories that need time and trust to be told.
